Pleasing finish for Kevin in Lurgan

Banbridge’s neighbouring club Clann Eireann in Lurgan last week promoted a race for the competitive A3 category comprising of eight laps (45 miles) round the compact Derrymacash circuit.

Kevin McAlinden found himself alone as the sole Banbridge Cycling Club rider in a full field of 80 riders. Nevertheless, Kevin managed to stay well to the front of the main peloton whilst chasing an early five man breakaway for most of the race.

The chasers reduced the gap considerably in the final lap and Kevin led a small break from the main peloton with two miles to go. It was a desperate final attempt to catch the leaders, who had broken away in front early on.

Although Kevin was unable to bridge the gap and catch the leading five man group, the Banbridge rider was more than pleased to record a fine 10th place finish in the Derrymacash race. It was his best finish in this category to date, with the main group a further 15 seconds adrift of his pleasing finish.
