Point-to-point meeting this Saturday

THE Mid-Antrim Hunt are busy preparing for their point-to-point, which is the first of the season, at the Higgins Estate, Moneyglass, near Toomebridge.

They have recently taken delivery of new aprons for the fences which have all been fully re-birched.

The aprons have been designed with the safety of the horses in mind and the Hunt is very grateful to Cunningham Covers, Abbey Upholstery and the boys from Raymart for all their help in their construction.

The Chairman of the point-to-point committee, Roy Colvin, has seen his yard become a hive of activity over the past weeks with all the new aprons being assembled and the fences re-birched.

Tony McManmon and Noel Fitzpatrick helped to make this an extremely efficient process with the new birch being very well packed and the completed fences now look extremely impressive.

This autumn there is a new Race Sponsor which is the recently opened White River Hotel, Toome, and the other races are sponsored by Dennison Commercials, McBurney Transport, Robert Gault Ltd, Belfast City Auctions and Convery Trailers.

In spite of a wet early September the ground has dried up well and is in good shape. The forecast for the rest of the week leading up to Saturday is excellent so the racing conditions should be very good.

The Higgins Estate is looking as beautiful as ever and with the start of autumn giving some colouring to the trees it should be a great day to go racing.

The committee are hoping for a successful start to the Autumn season with a good crowd attending.
