Points keep team in contention

LURGAN B team secured five valuable points away from home at Lagan Valley on Saturday.

With a break for a couple of weeks before their next fixture, home to Holywood on Tuesday, August 13, they are still in contention in this their first season in division five.

The rink of D Dempsey, R Jones, D McCabrey and V Devlin struggled to find any consistency against a strong opposing rink

However in their final five ends they managed to gain six shots which allowed them to finish on a more respectable total of eight shots down, 14-22.

Skip E Quinn ensured the win for Lurgan with his rink including G Stewart, B Brown and R McCarthy winning 33-8.

Excluding a small blip over ends three, four and five, they only lost another three shots over the final 15 ends. Eamon has ensured good consistency so far this season, and hopefully will continue for the final five matches.

The rink of skip W McCullough, D Henderson, B Beattie and R Livingstone found the going much tougher.

They were trailing by 10 shots at the 16th end but with a great fightback they were all square going into the final end. But the Lagan Valley skip, with his final bowl, got the shot to win 24-23 and take the shine of the great comeback.

The rink of skip S Neill, J McCullough, A Houston and N Sloan were involved in the closest game.

They had managed to obtain the upper hand to lead by six shots at the 19th end but unfortunately couldn’t capitalise in the final two ends.

They did manage to finish the final end one shot ahead 23-22.
