Pony club members pass test

SIX members of the North Derry Pony Club (NDPC) - Justine O'Hara, Sarah McCorkell, Anna Logue, Codi Miller, Maryann McErlean and Molly McLucas - passed their British Horse Society (BHS) Riding & Road Safety Test at Eglinton Equestrian Centre recently.

The test was the culmination of a six week programme of intensive training from the NDPC Chief Instructor, Jacqui McPherson.

The exam tests the rider’s roadcraft and riding ability. The exam is split into three parts; the theory test, the simulated road route and the actual road route.

The test helps educate riders in road safety in order to minimise the risk involved when riding on the roads. The test is available to all riders from 12 years of age and is supported by the Department for Transport. It is the only test that any rider will undertake that has the potential to save not only their own life but that of their horse and other road users as well.

The BHS Riding and Road Safety Test is accredited by Ofqual as part of the National Qualification Framework (NQF).
