Pool cups are up for grabs

THE build-up to the 27th annual presentation night of the Larne and District Pool League begins in earnest with the first of two consecutive cup finals in a week.

The GSG Cup holders No1 Blues have won their way through to defend the trophy tonight (Thursday) against stern opposition in the form of Ulsterbus Eagles, who have a fine cup pedigree and are bidding to achieve a hat-trick of successes in consolation cup finals: their brace in the Premier Cup should stand them in good stead.

League sponsor Larne and District HPS provides the neutral venue for the final. Last week, home advantage paid dividends as the Ulsterbus juggernaut left in its wake the Larne football supporters, who took a solitary frame from the nine available, while the Blues saw off the Rockets in a close tussle, winning 8-4.

In the Premier Cup, Station Bar now know their opponents after No1 Club overturned Larne FC’s home advantage, clinching a belter of a contest in the final frame through young William Irvine to go through 8-7.
