POOL: Thatch move clear of rivals Saints

Thatch moved four points clear at the top of the Q Club Larne Pool League this week after nearest challengers the Saints lost 9-6 at home to Q Pool.

Q Pool were inspired by a Paul Francey hat-trick in a match that went back and forth. The home side had led 5-4, but Q Pool won five out of the last six to go above their opponents and win the match.

The Thatch had an easier than expected evening with a 15-0 victory over No. 1 Reds, and Ibrox move up into second after a hard-fought win 10-5 over Station Bar.

The Feathers remain in fifth thanks to a comfortable 14-1 win over Ruby’s which keeps them in touch at the top.

St Comgalls pocketed an impressive 10-5 away win over Gers with Paul Smyth, Anthony McCorry and Alphonsus McIlwaine all chalking up hat-tricks.

Q Club continue their march up the table to sixth with a routine 11-4 win over No. 1 Blues and were led by Rab Butler and Tyler McKee hat-tricks.

Tech Tornadoes’ form has dipped since the turn of the year and Nick McClay’s men will be disappointed not to leave the Thatch with a win after being pegged back by the Thatch Rockets for a 8-8 draw. The Tornadoes were thankful to Drew Niblock for salvaging a point by winning the play-off frame.
