Poor display of batting at CIYMS

ON the Bank Holiday Monday, Lurgan lost their second league game in a row when a poor batting display led to defeat away to CIYMS by 74 runs.

The town side’s bowling and fielding improved from Saturday’s performance against Carrick as they restricted the home team to 220.

Niranjan Godbole was the pick of the bowling taking four for 46 in 9.5 overs with Nicky McCollum claiming two for 32.

Former New Zealand international Craig McMillen top scored for CIYMS with 41 before being dismissed by a fine catch from Callum Grieve off the bowling of McCollum. Skipper Barry Cooper made 30.

In reply, a number of the Lurgan batsmen managed to play themselves in, but none were able to follow up with the major innings that was required to overhaul the home side’s total.

Niranjan Godbole was the top scorer with 29 before being given out leg before to a delivery that appeared to drifting down the leg side. Stephen Chambers made 25.
