Popular annual Drumlough Tom Cairns Memorial five mile road race and fun run to take place

The annual Drumlough Tom Cairns Memorial Road Race will takes place on Wednesday June 25.

This well attended local event promises to be a warm and welcoming community event. Stunning local scenery provides the backdrop to the race route whilst, catering facilities and face painting for children provides a celebratory atmosphere at the finish area.

The Road Race was started several years ago by local man the late Tom Cairns and has successfully raised much needed funds for various charities. This year’sofficial race charity is Diabetes UK.

The event is organised by Drumlough Community Association in conjunction with the Sports Development Department of Lisburn City Council. This is an annual event which the Council is very happy to be involved with, promoting health and fitness in a fun way.

Maureen Stanfield Chair of the Drumlough Community Association, said: “The Road Race is a great way to get everyone involved and build community relations. There is something for everyone and all are welcome to take part and enjoy the event. Don’t worry if the 5 mile challenge seems a bit daunting you can join in the 2.5 mile Fun Run, and children can compete in the 1 Km Children’s Run. Please come to Drumlough and participate as a runner or spectator.”

The children’s race will start promptly at 6.30pm followed by the adult’s race at 7.00pm. Everyone is welcome, registration will take place in the church hall on the night from 6pm.
