Portrush end season on six goal high

Portrush were out to make amends after just missing out on automatic promotion in midweek.

They traveled to Parkview to finish the league season and the journey was very worthwhile. In the early stages Portrush had all the possession and were pilling on the pressure but could not get the opening goal. Attack after attack came the way of the Parkview defense but from poor finishing (John Dillon) to good solid defensive work from Parkview the match still stayed 0-0.

Five minutes from half time after more pressure from Portrush, the ball fell to Neil McMaster on the edge of the circle and he rifled the ball into the corner of the net. From the start of the second half Portrush came out and didn’t hold back. Only a couple of minutes into the half the ports were 2-0 up with a goal from our top goal scorer James McCook.

Shortly after they extended their lead further with a third goal from the fantastic Callum McKeeman who along with James had been the stand out forwards of the season. Portrush did not ease the pressure on Parkview and looked for more goals until James McCook secured his second goal of the game to settle it at 4-0.

Portrush were now in a comfortable position and kept the ball really well and a quick break out from defense resulted in captain Aaron Kerr drilling home a fifth of the day. In similar fashion just minutes before the final whistle a quick counter attack again caught the Parkview defense off guard and Neil McMaster got his second goal of the game to end it 6-0.

This was a fantastic performance and result to end what has been a very good season for both Portrush Teams. David Price in defense and Neil McMaster had brilliant performances in recent matches and Neil was awarded a very worthy Man of the Match award. All at Portrush would like to thank Ricky McKinnon for his support and the driving of the team bus on Saturday.

Everyone in the First XI would like to thank captain Aaron Kerr for the effort, commitment and fun he has put into the team this year. Every player would like to see Aaron continue on next season to have just as enjoyable season as this one. Team: G.
