Portrush hit form on last home game of season

PORTRUSH Seconds hit top form on Saturday with a resounding 5-2 victory over Bangor Fifths.

The win came as a much needed boost for Portrush whose fortunes had been flagging of late, but this morale booster saw them put together some excellent moves with all players enjoying a match in the Ballycastle sunshine.

Bangor, comprised mainly of young lads, could only manage to field ten men but played with some energy and enthusiasm. However, they could not match the pace and power of the Portrush team who controlled the first half.

During this period, Portrush notched up three goals to Bangor’s one, but as has happened in the past, the local lads’ game fell apart in the second half and Bangor came back strongly to reduce the deficit.

Portrush had a jittery period after this, but then found their form again and banged in two more goals to seal a fine victory.

Andy Christie scored twice with Aaron Kerr, Sean McMullan and Aaron Douglas getting one apiece.

The game saw the re-apperance of former Portrush player, Frank Shirley, who came on for the last ten minutes of the game. Frank missed all of last season, but decided to make a comeback and impressed during his short spell on the pitch.
