With a good forecast for Saturday and gale force winds forecast for Sunday, the organisers made the call to run all 11 hours of competition on Saturday. This made it a long day for competitors and very physically challenging but they were very happy to continue as they were so impressed with the conditions and location of the international competition.

There were some quality performances of surf kayaking and waveski on show at East Strand, the competitors were highlighting the progression that surf kayaking has made, surfing the waves very critically and pulling some impressive aerial manoeuvres.

Northern Ireland’s competitors showed that they are dominating the surf kayaking scene in Britain at the minute with stand out performances and gold medals from current World Champion Jake King who won the waveski category, Corin King who took first place in the Men’s short boat, Ashley Hunter won first place in both the Masters Short and Long boat - a great achievement for his first year in the masters and return to competitive surfing. Congratulations also to English surfer Aiden Brackenbury who won Men’s Long boat and both Junior Long and Short Boat. Emma Fishleigh from England took first place in both Ladies long and short boat.

Congratulations to the NI surf Kayaking team Development Squad for competing in their first international competition. The juniors put all they have learned over the last year into practice and surfed very well. Congratulations to Zeke Wilson, Jamie Gamble and Mathew Lamont who all made the finals.

The Northern Ireland Surf Kayak Club would like to thank all of the competitors, organisers and volunteers for making it such a successful event. Organising an event like this would not be made possible without the support of Christine McKee and the Coleraine Borough Council, the competitors were very pleased and impressed with the facilities that the council provided.

Thanks very much to our sponsors for supporting the event: Flood Marine, Ocean Addicts, Troggs Surf Shop, getwet.ie, JoeDerry, kayaksurf.net, 55 North, PeakUK, Portrush Townhouse.
