Portrush ladies make 'High Performance' squads

THE Irish Ladies Golf Union has selected two High Performance Squads, one Senior and one Junior, to develop Ireland's leading top amateur female golfers and deliver international success throughout 2011 and beyond.

Squad members on the High Performance programme, led by HP Manager David Kearney, will agree a Periodisation Plan incorporating all athletic activity for the year. Players will receive comprehensive technical and sport science support and be monitored on a regular basis.

A new player database and golf statistics package will provide a means of tracking progress and identifying key areas requiring attention.

Coaches and Sports Science professionals will use this facility to provide frequent feedback and ensure the programme continually meets the player’s needs.

Curtis Cup stars Danielle McVeigh (Royal Co. Down Ladies) and the Maguire twins, Leona and Lisa (Slieve Russell), are joined on the Senior panel by current Internationals Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush), Gillian O’Leary (Cork), Charlene Reid (Royal Portrush) and Emma O’Driscoll (Ballybunion).

On the Junior panel, Girls International Jessica Carty (Holywood) and Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) join a handful of thirteen year old budding stars, each playing off a single figure handicap.

In addition to following strict preparation routines, the squad members will travel to overseas training camps and International individual events under the expert guidance of High Performance Manager David Kearney.
