Portrush sunk

Portrush can have no real excuses for losing a match they never quite got into. Even the experienced and normally reliable Peter McMullan fluffed a couple of short corners which could have made all the difference.

It was an off-colour performance by the Portrush lads and the writing was on the wall after ten minutes when Mossley scored from open play.

Another goal from open play made it two shortly afterwards and by half time Mossley had netted a third from a short corner.

Portrush’s cause wasn’t helped when a downpour made conditions very difficult. Not only was the weather a problem, but the Portrush lads found great difficulty adapting to the water-based surface.

Portrush did carve out a couple of opportunities through Sean McMullan and Chris Leeming. Each was presented with a one-on-one with the ‘keeper, but they failed to find the back of the net.

Fifteen minutes into the second half Mossley got their fourth and final goal to seal victory.

Portrush won’t be expecting anything other than commitment from their players who need time to get their game together.

This Saturday they face the daunting prospect of taking on Queen’s at home - a side who haven’t lost this season.
