Ports beaten by high-flying Bangor in last game of 2014

Portrush traveled to Bangor for their last game of the year.

The Ports were determined to get a win against the Bangor side.

As the game began Portrush immediately put the Bangor team under pressure, having multiple chances at goal but the Bangor keeper was on form and made some impressive saves.

As the first half carried on Portrush were dangerous on the attack and the Bangor defences were broken through for John Dillon to find Leon Smith at the edge of the circle who hit an immense shot to score, putting the Ports in the lead.

Portrush continued to attack and look for another goal, but another wasn’t to be found as Bangor began to look for the equaliser.

Then nearing the end of the first half, Bangor were able to score, with a fast run through and a deflection from the striker making the game all even at 1-1. Just before the break Bangor had been able to score a second, now taking the lead at 2-1.

After half time Portrush were still in the match and hoped to make an impact on the scoreline so the Ports continued to attack the Bangor defence, winning short corners and getting shots away, but the experienced Bangor defenders and goalkeeper were able to prevent Portrush scoring another.

As the game drew on Bangor were able to score a third, nearing the end of the second half when the Bangor midfielder was able to hit an impeccable reverse shot, making the scoreline 3-1 to the Bangor side.

The match finished at 3-1 and Portrush weren’t dissatisfied with their performance, with good play throughout the squad but however on the day it just wasn’t meant to be. The next match with be on January 10th after the Christmas break.
