Ports hit for four at Lurgan

PORTSTEWART slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Lurgan Celtic on Saturday.

It was a disappointing display by Gary Taylor’s outfit against a team below them in the league.

In the early stages of the match, Owen Peden went close for the Ports, his free kick went just wide of the upright.

The home side opened the scoring after just four minutes, but Cahir Friel was unlucky not to equalise five minutes later, he beat four defenders but couldn’t convert his effort.

Things went from bad to worse for Portstewart when they had a genuine penalty appeal turned down, and Lurgan Celtic grabbed two more goals before the break.

The second half proved to be even more disappointing for Portstewart.

Heads were down and the visitors made very little effort to create any chances.
