Ports shock Coleraine with two quick goals

COLERAINE battled hard but went down to two rapid-fire goals to league leaders Portadown at UUC last Saturday.

The vistors went on an early attack and managed to break through the Coleraine defence but produced a eak shot.

The hoe side responded with good tackles made from A. Caldwell, A McGill, S Kennedy, C.Ferguson who played well against a very lively set of Portadown forwards and S,Harkness had a good game playing out of postion in right back for the first time.

Despite all of this effort Coleraine struggled to find a way throught the Portadown defence and the game remained scoreless at half-time.

Within two minutes of the restart, however, the Coleraine defence were caught out with a Portadown forward firing home.

Barely had the game restarted when a bad pass let the visitors in again, the initial shot being saved only for the rebound to be converted.

Despite the set-back Coleraine showed grit and determination to keep going forward.

At the other end Budina was in outstanding form in the Coleraine goal, with several shots being well saved including one being pushed over the cross bar.

This was a much improved team performance from Coleraine, despite the defeat.
