Portstewart Bowling Club flag unfurling

PORTSTEWART Bowling Club celebrated the official unfurling of the club flag and opening of the greens at the Warren last Monday evening.

New President Richard Conkey extended a hearty welcome to all the members and guests to this the first important event of the season.

Presidents and Captains badges were exchanged and proceedings commenced with international bowler Bernie O’Neill, deputising for President Margaret who was stranded abroad, and President Richard unfurling the club flag to open the club for 2010.

Bernie and Noelle Conkey, wife of President Richard, each bowled a bowl to open the greens after which an evening of mixed rinks was enjoyed by all the bowlers.

Both the ladies and the men had their spider competitions before everybody adjourned to the clubhouse for a light supper prepared by the ladies.

Past President Betty McGowan was asked to draw the winner of the fireside quiz that the ladies club had circulated during the winter months.

Brookgreen Bowling Club President, John Graham, said he had had a good fun evening of bowls together with a lovely supper. He wished both the ladies and men’s clubs successful seasons with many good bowls.
