Portstewart ladies present trophies

PORTSTEWART ladies held their monthly presentation of trophies last Wednesday.

It followed the night after new lady members were warmly welcomed to the club by Lady Captain Christine Hutchinson. This was preceded by a most enjoyable and informative demonstration of make up by Vie with consultants Lauren Young and Sian Toner and a display of handmade jewellery by Nuala McNeill’s daughter Gillian .

The May Monthly Medal winner was Claire Johnston and the runner-up was Margaret Allison.

The Centenary Trophy was played for at the June Monthly Medal and this was won by Agatha Mullan. Best gross was Susan Morgan with Mo Giffin being runner-up.

The Riverside Trophy was won by Collette McMullan with Diane McKay as runner-up. Best gross on the day was Sheelagh Duffy.

Jean Robinson and Kathleen McIlfatrick were winners over Ina Bratton and Rosie Millar in the Australian Spoons and progress to the next round to be played in Newtownstewart on July 27.

Meanwhile Maggie Penny and Grace McDowell will be playing in Knock on September 10 in the Nellie Garret Foursomes after beating Paula O’Kane and Mary Gillen.

Lady Captain, Christine Hutchinson, invited members to join her for an outing at Port Salon in Donegal last Monday.

Thirty nine players took up the offer and had a most enjoyable day. Fortunately the weather held up and conditions were good for golf.

Pauline Agnew was the overall winner with 42 points followed by Ina Bratton with 40, Deirdre Stewart with 39 and Susan Kelly on 38.

The front nine prize was won by Clare McKenna over Jane Duke, both on 23 points and Eleanor McLaughlin won the back nine over Moraig McCrum, with both on 21.

The total points for all par 3’s was won by Rosie Millar over Breda McKenna, both on 11points.

Many thanks to Christine for such a most enjoyable outing.
