Positives despite heavy defeat for South against Seasiders

South Antrim Seconds 1

Bangor Seconds 7

South played well but ultimately suffered a heavy defeat against Bangor 2nd XI at Friend’s School on Saturday.

South started the game very well and won a short corner in the first couple of minutes. Although they didn’t convert they went on to create a number of other opportunities through Darren Hutchinson and Jack Redpath.

After being unable to convert Bangor grew in confidence and opened the scoring after a good move in the circle which beat Hutchinson in goal.

They scored a second after a another swift break finished with the ball being deflected into the goal.

A third came shortly before half-time with Simon Hunter rattling the ball home from the edge of the circle.

Although South found themselves 3 goals down at the break they could be really pleased with their first half performance, which was full of energy and effort.

The second half started much the same as the first with the home team pressing the Seasiders for extended periods. Hutchinson and Wilson were unlucky to see shots well saved and rebound off the post while Chris Redpath was unfortunate to see his shot saved after a remarkable run from Centre Back, beating 3 players.

Quality

The quality Bangor were able to show up front was unfortunately too much for the South men and they were able to capitalise on some defensive mistakes towards the end of the game to put some gloss on the scoreline.

While South will be disappointed with how the game ended up they will take heart from the fact that they could have had a lot more goals going forward – If they can get a settled side, and importantly, a settled defence, in the coming weeks then there is no reason they cannot start getting some points on the board following this decent performance.
