Pre-season training continues for Slane sides

PRE-SEASON training for 2010/11 continues each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until the new season commences.

Each session will take place at Moneyslane Green, midweek at 7pm sharp and Saturday mornings at 11am sharp.

Always arrive five minutes early, suited and booted, ready to commence training, not five minutes late. Players need to show good discipline and timekeeping is essential to ensure the flow of training continues smoothly.

The teams are being trained preseason by Davy Johnstone, who played his first season in football at Moneyslane 21 years ago and is delighted to be able to maintain the ‘Slane ethos of giving something back to the club.

Davy has gone on to both play and manage in the Premier Section of the Amateur and Irish League level and has completed his UEFA ‘A’ Coaching Licence. The Moneyslane Seniors are now benefiting pre-season from his experience of coaching and playing the game at the higher levels in Northern Ireland.

Davy has been impressed by the large turnout and enthusiasm shown by the players and hopes that the skills/techniques practiced in training can be carried through into the pre-season friendlies.

Any players who would like to join a winning club, please feel free to join on the dates above and you will be made very welcome. There will be a lot of new faces arriving preseason as the hard working Junior section has just produced the first crop of young players who played at U17 level last season.

Several will hope to prove in preseason that they have the right attitude to make the transition to the three senior teams.

Players should bring training shoes, shin pads and boots to all sessions, and ensure that they are well hydrated. Obviously during pres-eason each player will have to work intensively for six weeks.

Pre-season is designed to ensure that as far as possible Moneyslane players returning from the off season period can within six weeks be ready to face the hurdles of another physically and mentally challenging season.

At the end of the day however the Moneyslane management and staff can only do so much and players should take responsibility for their well being not just at training but at home as well, and with a good balance between physical and technical training each player should start the season in good shape.
