Preparing for the 11-a-side game

PREPARING players for the 11-a-side game is the aim of the Lurgan Town Academy Under Nine Predators.

Manager Russell Collie is in charge and their training night is Friday from 7pm to 8.30pm at Gordon Playing Fields.

They have some good players to watch and with continued hard work and the right attitude, there is real potential in this group.

The team have been playing together for over a year and a half and have really bonded well as a group.

After a slow start to the season, where confidence at times was low and goals were being conceded too easily, the boys have really worked hard and performed very consistently in recent weeks scoring lots of goals and conceding far fewer.

Their game awareness has really improved and their ability to play well in possession, pass the ball and work hard as a team has been excellent. Most importantly, they can't wait for a Saturday morning to come and are loving their football.

There are high hopes for this group of lads if they continue to work hard.

They have added some further potential with new recruits this season and the good news is they will have another team, the Vapors, participating in mini-soccer in the Mid-Ulster Co-operative Insurance Football Games Development Centre.

This guarantees a minimum of 16 boys regular, competitive football on a Saturday morning.

It will accelerate their development over the next year and a half as they prepare for the challenge of playing 11-a-side football in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League in season 2011/12.
