Presentation and charity night was great success

Club Captain Prakash Vyas welcomed all those who attended the event in the Goodyear Sports and Social Club.

He paid special tribute to Shane O’Neill for all his efforts in organising the event and for his dedication to making the night such a huge success.

Neil Hardy was the presiding quizmaster for the evening and needless to say a few of the questions pertained to the club’s early history and had a few of the old timers scratching their heads for answers.

One in particular was left slightly embarrassed when he got the wrong answer to who was the club’s first President? He failed to realise it was himself of all people!

The proceeds from the quiz and raffle amounted to £420 and this will be donated to the charity Myasthenia Gravis Association www.mga-charity.org

This charity was selected because a long-standing member of the club has a daughter who suffers from this debilitating auto-immune disease.

On the playing front last Saturday the weather made playing conditions very difficult but this didn’t prevent the Hound Dogs team from returning a score of 110pts and nosing into the lead.

Contributing to this score were Thomas Marley 38pts, John Marley 37pts, and David Sloan 35pts.

The Hound Dogs are now at the head of affairs on 770pts and hold a three point lead over Class Act and A Painter and Three Brushes who are jointly tied in second place on 667pts.

With just one week remaining it would appear that winning team for this year will emerge from those mentioned as it would be fair to say the chasing pack are just too far behind.

Leading individual scores are John Marley 267pts, Micky McDonald 265pts, David Mulholland and Conor McGleeanon 260pts

The best score of the day was 39pts and was returned by David Cunningham. With the help of five pars on the front nine he secured 21pts. Of the seven holes open on the back nine he managed another five pars and came home with 18pts.

Turkey prizewinners this week were: 0-12, Colin Quinn 37pts; 13-18, David Cunningham 39pts; 19-28, Conor Haddock 37pts

Ham prizewinners: 0-12, Desmond Skelton 37pts; 13-18, John Clarke 38pts; 19-28 Kieran Devlin 37pts

Wine prizewinners: 0-12, Patrick McKeown 36pts; 13-18, Shane Mulholland 37pts; 19-28, Paul Breen 36pts

Sean McStay (5) won the gross prize of a ham when he returned 30 gross points over the sixteen holes.

The seniors’ prize of a ham went to Sean O’Neill (14) who returned 34pts.

There were five twos recorded in this competition
