Priorians lose heavily

PRIORIANS Firsts entertained Greenisland Firsts on Saturday at St. Columb’s Park.

Weather conditions wasn’t kind to either team with hailstones and a cold wind battering the players and the first half was evenly contested with both sides trying hard to open the scoring.

Lizzie Ballantine, the home sides goalie, along with Kristel Brown and Rhonda Curry had an excellent game and ensured that the Greenisland forwards didn’t breach the home sides goals. At the other end the Priorians forwards tried equally as hard to get Priorians on the score sheet.

With good open play from both teams it was hard to see which team would get the breakthrough and the score at half-time was 0-0.

The second half was a very different story and the home side never seemed to get going again and it was definitely a different and lethargic Priorians that started after the break.

Greenisland seemed to grow in confidence and within five minutes of the restart finally beat an in form Priorians goalie.

Priorians heads seemed to go down and the floodgates opened for the visitors, after several penalty corners Greenisland added to their goal tally and went further ahead.

Try as Priorians did they certainly were no match for a now rampant visiting team who ended the game with a 5-0 scoreline.

This result puts Priorians deeper into the relegation zone of the league and with time running out need to start gaining some points from their remaining games.
