The Cross Country tomorrow should see yet another exciting spectacle with a couple of hundred young Primary School pupils lining up to decide the final qualifiers for next month’s Northern Ireland deciders in Mallusk.

The first two rounds at Thornhill and St Columbs Park served up some terrific action and tomorrow should again be well worth watching.

It all kicks off at 12noon, three separate races, each of 1,400 metres and around fifteen different schools are expected to participate.

Hopefully the wind and rain/snow will abate but whatever the conditions the action will be very hot indeed.

Olympian’s popular Winter T&F meetings have been a welcome addition to the local scene and the first of this year’s series is on Sunday on the Templemore Track, starting at 11am.

There are events for U9’s to Seniors and Masters and once again a good entry is anticipated from athletes and clubs across the North West.

Inclement weather seems to follow this event but it has done little to deter interest, it is January after all and the track athletes are hardy enough to cope.

A wide range of events are on offer, on the track from 60m to 3,00m and the Field events are Shot Putt and Long Jump with the Turbo Javelin for the younger age groups.

Entries will be taken on the track from 10.30am with the U9 60m starting the programme at 11am.

While Sunday will also see Fintan Stewart the promising City of Derry Spartans teenager in Celtic Cross Country Games action a deserved reward for an excellent season to date as he featured strongly at both Provincial and National club competition.

He will wear the Ulster vest in the U17 race in Dunboyne this weekend with teams from Wales and Athletics Ireland also in the classy field.
