Pupils enjoy rugby blitz at Ophir

OPHIR RFC staged its Year 9 Blitz Day at The Cottonmount, Mallusk on Friday and St Malachy's College ran out worthy winners.

The pupils, who received their trophy from Ophir President Ced Bonar, beat Glengormley High School 21-5 in the final having been unbeaten in the other four games - two against Glengormley High and two against Edmund Rice College.

The aim of the Blitz Day is to promote community rugby in the Newtownabbey / north Belfast area. The three schools are taking part in the joint-funded Ophir/Ulster Branch youth development scheme. The main sponsor for the day was The Sharing Education Programme who provided trophy, certificates for all participants and a buffet lunch.

Ophir RFC is looking to recruit new members from the ages of 12 and above to play in our ever expanding youth section so if you would like to join us please call Gavin Robinson on 07914310694.
