In the sunshine records were broken, records were almost broken and many ‘personal bests’ were set.

Various athletic events, including sprints, jumps and races have been the focus of PE classes since the Easter break.

Pupils trained and were coached by the PE Staff, not only in class but also in after-school Athletics Club sessions, the sole objective - being in the top eight in their year group allowing them to qualify for
Sports Day.

Memorable performances included records being broken in several events, some of which had stood for over thirty years.

These included: Boys’ Yr 9 100m time, previously set by Ryan Galloway, cut by 0.16secs to 12.84secs by James Hughes; R.Erwin’s (1980) time of 2mins 37.9secs for the 800m was beaten by Jack Cubitt (also Year 9) with a new record of 2mins 37.19secs; and Luke Brown (Year 10) threw 33.55m in the Javelin beating S. Watters’ 2003 distance.

The girls performed equally well, with many Personal Bests being set on the day. Jodie Wylie (Yr 9) was a fraction off beating the school’s 1.35m High Jump record, by jumping 1.34m.

The skill of these young athletes is something to look forward to for future events.
