Quartet set for NI duty

FOUR locals have been included in the Northern Ireland Regional Junior Squad ahead of the forthcoming Regions Cup tournament.

Glebe Rangers pair Tommy Elder and Trevor Parkhill and Ballymoney United's Michael McQuitty and Denver Gage - a target for Ballymena United - will take part in the competition qualifier which gets under way on Wednesday.

Glebe boss Gareth Scott, said: "I'm delighted the two boys have been recognised but at the same time I'm disappointed that we didn't have a couple more called up.

"I feel we have the players in form at this point in time.

"But the call-ups are great for both lads and great for Glebe Rangers."

United manager Joe McCall also welcomed the selection of his players.

"It's an honour for the club and an honour for both players," he said.

"They were both involved in the Umbro tournament so I would have been very surprised if they hadn't been involved this time around."

Two regional teams will play each other over two games with the winning side going on to represent Northern Ireland in the Regions Cup.

Meanwhile, Glebe are hoping to include a side in the Hutchinson Tiles League from next season.

Plans are under way for Glebe Rangers Old Boys to compete in the competition.

Glebe have snapped up Alan Sheppard from Coleraine Crusaders for the next campaign.
