QUINN SET TO ATTACK BLUES

'WE'LL have a go at them.'

That is the message of Glenavon boss Marty Quinn ahead of Tuesday’s Carling Premiership showdown with Linfield at Mourneview Park (kick-off 7.45pm).

Glenavon currently sit one point ahead of the Belfast side but have played one game more.

David Jeffrey’s men have been in far from formidable form so far this term, having already dropped points against Ballymena United and Cliftonville whilst suffering defeat at the hands of Dungannon Swifts.

The Blues have a respectable recent record against the champions, having won three of the last six games between the sides - an impressive run for a team who have been in the bottom half of the table.

And therefore Quinn is going into this game with confidence and says that his side will be going ‘hammer and tongs’ to get the victory to end their run of two successive defeats.

“I think we have to go out and have a go at them as we proved at Windsor Park last year when we won 2-1,” he said.

“If you have a go at them you have a chance of getting something but if you sit back and let them come at you, you’ll not get a lot out of it. We’ll be going in hammer and tongs.

“You can slip and slide down that table very quickly if you don’t pick up points along the way and we haven’t done that in our last two so it’s vitally important that we bounce back again.

“The boys have got to stand up and be counted now. I need a bit of character there and I thought we lacked a bit of that last Saturday. We lacked a bit of leadership and someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck. We didn’t have anyone to do that and we were overrun.”

However, the boss is wary of a Peter Thompson that is yet to get his name on the scoresheet in the league this season:

“Linfield aren’t firing on all cylinders yet. By all accounts they should have been beaten by Cliftonville last Saturday but you never underestimate them. Thompson’s in a barren spell and he hasn’t scored so you’re always on guard, waiting for it to happen.

“It’s basically the same team that did the double last season so you underestimate Linfield at your peril.”
