Quinn targets victories

GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn has targeted six points from his side's next two league matches against Coleraine and Dungannon Swifts.

The Blues have picked up just one point from their last seven Carling Premiership matches and, having slipped down to seventh in the league table, Quinn knows that his side must get back into gear immediately if they are to get back into the top six.

Things haven’t looked at all rosy for the Lurgan Blues for several weeks now but at the same time, they have lost by the odd goal four times and its fair to say luck hasn’t been on their side.

Missed opportunities have certainly played their part too and yet again, Quinn has called on his players to rediscover their scoring form when they face Coleraine at Mourneview Park on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

The Bannsiders, after a slow start, eventually kicked into action and sit just one point behind Glenavon but Quinn is sure that his side can get all three points if they can up their game on recent performances.

“We’ll try and get more positivity and we have got to take our chances when they arrive,” he said.

“That was epitomised against Cliftonville last week when we had a couple of good chances and didn’t take them. We haven’t taken the lead since we did at Seaview and that didn’t last long.

“Coleraine have lost their last two, let’s not forget. They’re carrying a few injuries as well and are a bit depleted. It’s two teams desperately in need of a win and I’m just hoping that we can get back into winning ways again.

“We need to get our noses in front and then close the door and not let the other team in for that five or ten minutes after we score because that’s been our downfall.

“Let’s try and cut out our silly yellow cards too. I motivate the players and I like a bit of aggression but it’s got to be controlled.

“Three points could bring us up into mid-table again with Dungannon to come after that. Those are games when we have to say that we’re going for the six points.”

As well as defensive duo Jay Magee and Willo McDonagh missing out following their red cards, Trevor Molloy’s further two game suspension kicks in after his dismissal against Linfield last month. Therefore, James Costello is set to step into the starting line-up with Mark Miskimmin also to return as, according to Quinn, the Blues will ‘definitely be reverting to a 4-4-2’ formation.
