Races come thick and fast for runners

It’s been a busy week for Ballymena’s Fit N Running athletes with the races coming thick and fast as the cross country season draws to a end.

Last Sunday saw Mark McKinstry back on the start line at Ballyboley Forest 24 hours after securing victory at An Creggan to consolidate his 1st place in the winter trail league.

Despite the lack of recovery time Mark showed great strength to claim 2nd place over the 5 mile course crossing the line in 26mins 34 secs.

ARMAGH ROAD RACES

Twelve year old Rebecca Wallace was in action on Thursday night on the streets of Armagh city in U13 girls race over 1400 meters.

Going in a field of 190 runners Rebecca produced a great performance to finish in 4th place in 5mins 25 secs.

STORMONT CROSS COUNTRY

Saturday saw the final race in the Northern Ireland cross country league on the picturesque grounds of Stormont.

In the junior boys U17 race Connor McQuillan showed good form as he claimed 3rd place over the 2.9 kilometer course.

He was also on the North Belfast team which won the junior boys team prize.

Mark McKinstry continued his rapid run of improvement with an impressive 7th place from a field of 142 starters over 4.7miles. His finishing time was 24mins 37 secs.

Paula and James Wallace held 2nd and 3rd league position in their age groups going into Saturdays event.

Both categories were at full strength and James ran a fine race to claim 5th in his age group.

Paula finished in 61st place in the Female open race from an overall turn out of 123runners.

Both are now waiting for the official final league results to be announced.
