Rafters snooker league

The clubrooms in Ballymoney were packed with eight teams all eager to impress at the start of what should prove a highly competitive season.

Both Uel and Richard Wylie, who run Rafters, say they have been greatly impressed to see so many young people wanting to join this year’s league action.

“We have a great deal of budding talent in our midst and it all points to an exciting season,” Uel told the Times.

Now in its fourth year, last year’s winners, All Stars, with captain Lee Gibson back, will be doing all they can to hold on to the tile.

Also, Derek Patton whose team, Rafters Untouchables, finished runners-up, is sure that this year he has the extra edge to lift eh title with the signing of Shaun Williamson.

Rafters Unusual Suspects Captain Paddy McCook has spent all summer redeveloping his team and with new signings Billy Moore, Rafters number one safety player, Matthew Shields and Adam White, he is quietly confident of finishing in the top three.

Rafters Rockets have a new captain, Dean McCahon, who might just be the man to lead them to glory this season.
