Rahul special guest at Lurgan 400 celebration

Former Lurgan cricket professional Rahul Mankad is set to return to Pollock Park on Friday, August 6, for a special evening to mark the town's 400th anniversary.

Rahul, who is considered by many to be one of the best professionals ever to play in the NCU, spent several years at Lurgan before moving to live in Australia.

He is flying into Northern Ireland especially for this event and is looking forward to meeting up with many of his former team mates and other friends he made at the club.

Lurgan captain Peter Maxwell explained the rationale for the evening, “The Borough Council have organised a number of special events throughout the year to celebrate this significant milestone in the town’s history.

“They have also encouraged local sports clubs to consider hosting their own events. Our cricket committee discussed this request and decided that we would like to play our part in these celebrations by running an event where the contribution the club has made to the sporting life of the town is recognised.”

The evening will commence at 5.15pm with a twenty20 match where current players take on players who have represented Lurgan Cricket Club in the past. This will be followed by a meal in the clubhouse and a chance to catch up with former teammates.

Peter added, “Invitations have been sent out to all the former players we have contact details for but there are a number who we have not been able to reach.

“Thus, if there is anyone who has represented the club whether that be at 1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI, Taveners or one of our youth teams you are warmly invited to join us for this special event and I would be grateful if you could contact me on 38820153.”
