Rain ruins great Carrick attack

Carrickfergus Cricket Club’s final home Ulster Bank Premier League match of the season against CIYMS fell victim to torrential rain at Middle Road.

With the visitors struggling at 138 for 8 and skipper Ross Gelderbloem having just dismissed the last of their recognised batsmen, Ben McCord for 48, the heavens opened and within minutes the ground was flooded.

The heavy rain persisted for more than half-an-hour and with pools of water on the square and outfield and water having flowed under the covers, it became obvious that there was no chance of any further play.

Carrick had been in a strong position, with only tail-enders remaining as Anthony Martin, with three wickets, and Ryan Eagleson with two wickets, each had bowled excellent spells. But the only winner on the day was the weather and the game will now be rearranged as a 20-over match.
