Rainey girls through to Carnegie quarter-finals

RAINEY Endowed put on an impressive display in the first round of the Carnegie Senior Cup beating St MacNissi's College (Garron Tower) 6–1.

Rainey started the game well and went 1-0 ahead within six minutes when confusion in the St MacNissi’s penalty box allowed Brianna Kerr to run unchallenged into the box sending a low-left foot shot past Ciara Campbell in goals. Kerr added a second five minutes later following a fine piece of individual skill on the right wing before drilling the ball into the goal from close range.

St MacNissi’s responded immediately when Aisling Ward blasted the ball from long range over Georgina Heath in the Rainey goals bringing the score to 2–1. From the restart Rainey consolidated their lead further when Kerr grabbed her hat-trick after she latched on to a loose ball in the penalty box before slotting the ball into the net. Rainey added a fourth moments before the half-time whistle when Joanne Patterson scored directly from a free–kick.
