Rainey Old Boys have it all to do against Highfield

A spiritless Old Boys outfit were well beaten by relegation threatened Bective at home on Saturday and it will have to be a complete change in mentality if they are to emerge victorious at Woodleigh Park.

Highfield remained unbeaten at home until February when they unexpectedly went down by a point to Greystones at their home base. Following their unforeseen defeat, the Cork men had two wins against Ulster opposition, defeating Dungannon at Stevenson Park and then Armagh.

Significantly perhaps for Rainey, Highfield have won their home games by an average of only nine points.

Rainey’s best victory of the year was undoubtedly their win against Highfield at Hatrick Park. That day the young loose forwards met the big rumbling Munster pack on the gainline, robbing them from any go-forward.

With commitment, execution in the red zone, and an almost perfect lineout, Rainey fought their way to a 18-13 victory that will live long in the memory.

Their supporters will be hoping that their team will be able to arrest the current slide and reproduce that heartening win in Cork.
