Rainey ready for School’s Cup Royal Rumble

RAINEY Endowed will be hoping for another massive performance this Saturday morning as they host Belfast Royal Academy. The Magherafelt outfit take on the Roughfort based side in the third round of the Northern Bank Schools Cup.

In the last round Rainey proved to be too strong for Carrick Grammar but this Saturday they will face a much sterner test in the shape of BRA.

Coach Chris Campbell was looking forward to the tie and stated that preparations had been going well.

“We had a good run out last weekend against Bangor. We were keen to face them as they play a very similar style to BRA. They have a big pack and a couple of big centres and we have been preparing thoroughly to deal with their strengths and hopefully exploit any weaknesses they may have.”

Facing any Belfast side in schools rugby is notoriously difficult task for the country sides. They have a larger pool of players to choose from and have superior resources. Nonetheless, Campbell knows that Rainey will not simply roll over for the Belfast side.

“Playing the Belfast schools is always tricky. I think having a home tie gives us a wee chance. There is no doubt they start the game as favourites but we have one more cup game under our belts and we are prepared for Saturday.”

“Playing at home provides us with familiarity and we know the routine we go through and it helps to settle nerves.”

Rainey have been plagued with injuries throughout the season but crucially they are beginning to get their entire panel fit.

“The mood is good in the camp. Training has gone extremely well this week and other than few wee minor knocks we should have a full panel to use on Saturday.”

In the last round Rainey were driven on by a boisterous home crowd and Campbell admitted that the home support plays a major factor.

“The home support provides the lads with a bit more confidence and encouragement. It is great to see a big crowd out supporting the boys and hopefully they can play their part on Saturday.”

Kick off at Rainey Endowed on Saturday is at 10.30am.
