Rainey takes top spot in Coast Road Handicap Race

For the second race in a row there was a new name on a Larne Athletic Club trophy as Janine Rainey took the honours in the Coast Road Handicap Race.

Almost 50 Larne AC members took part over a testing course five-and-a-half mile course and

first away were Brommely Finn, Nicola Clawson and Margaret Ferguson accompanied and encouraged by Eddie Finn. The remaining runners setting out in succession depending on their handicap times until Wayne Morrow started some 32 minutes later.

Rainey was a clear winner by some two minutes with a time of 50:00. Bernie Regan was second, her time of 47:03 - more than three minutes faster than her time last year. Shiree Brennan improved on her fifth-place finish at the Fulton 5 achieving third place with a time of 51:51. Bernard Brady also had a great run for fourth place.

Phelim McAllister’s time of 33:07 was fastest on the day with Geraldine Quigley fastest lady in 39.17. Special mention must also go to club juniors, Brommely Finn and Laura Brennan who both show great potential with impressive performances.

Dale Smith and his team-mate Robin McKenna took part in the first of a series of Causeway Coast Adventure Races. Saturday’s race started and finished at Carrickfergus Castle and took in the surrounding countryside and hills. They finished sixth out of 63 teams after a gruelling five hours running, kayaking and mountain biking for 39 miles while navigating to checkpoints. The finish was so tight that they narrowly missed out on podium places.

Congratulations to Claire Dickinson who had a fabulous race at the ‘Run in the Dark’ 10k which was held over a tough course at Stormont. She crossed the line in 52:05 in what was her first 10k.

The first club runner home at the Larne parkrun was Sammy Drummond who took third to finish the timed run in 19:31. Lyndsey Dillion, continued her progress and was the first Larne AC female to finish finishing 34th overall and fourth female in 29:15 (PB).

Next to finish was club stalwart Noel Greenlee (39th) 32:27 which was a PB on this course and then Mel Priest 54th (14th female) in 55:52.
