Randalstown men should be crowned champions this week

AFTER no fewer than 26 rounds of league matches, the INBEV Town and Country pool league finally draws to a close this week, where, barring a freak set of results, Randalstown Veterans will be crowned league champions.

With the Randalstown team not in action last week, their rearranged match with Lurig A on Tuesday night could be the game that will see them crowned champions before the last round of matches on Thursday night if they can take four points from that game, otherwise victory should be sealed on Thursday night at their home game with Halfway House B.

With only a handful of games played last week Glencloy had an easy 4-1 away win in Heffron’s with Brian Taggart ensuring Heffron’s were not whitewashed in their final game of the season. Heffron’s also had another reason to cheer as their captain Mickey Joe O’Boyle picked up the Sportperson of the year award.

Elsewhere, BUSC had a narrow 3-2 win over Halfway B where wins for Jimmy Knowles , Seamus Clarke and Seamus Scullion ensured victory for the Ballymena team. Two points for Halfway B however now sees them tied on points with their stable mates Halfway A, who went down 4-1 to Greenhills wins for Michael McAuley, Ciaran Reid, Joe Larkin and Paul Scullion guarantee that a
