Randalstown Second XI beat freeze and hit double figures

The weekend weather took its tool on Randalstown Hockey Club's schedule of matches with all but one of the club's fixtures falling foul of the icy conditions.

The one exception was the Second XI, who managed to play their Qualifying Plate match against Larne Seconds on Sunday.

And it was a result to warm the hearts of the spectators who braved the conditions as Randalstown cantered to a 10-0 victory.

The Plate is a competition Randalstown were keen to progress in having been beaten finalists in last year’s showpiece.

Randalstown started strongly, building phases of play and retaining possession well. Jayne McGrillen opened the scoring for the home side with a well taken effort before Kathryn McCullough doubled the lead from a penalty corner.

Randalstown wanted to consolidate their lead and build upon their possession in second half and with this came a further eight goals with forwards Trinity Geddis, Alice Reid and Anna Wilson all claiming goals.

Kathryn McCullough and Jayne McGrillen completed their braces in the second half whilst Nicole a Moore bagged a hat trick.

A super effort from the whole squad was reflected by the score line and Randalstown will look to build on this for next week’s Irish Junior Cup fixture at Antrim Forum against Belfast Harlequins.

Thanks to our sponsors Doherty and Grays, to Andy Gleghorne for coaching, Janet Clarke for umpiring and to all the supporters who came to cheer the team on.

UNDER-11

After cancellation last week due to a frozen pitch, Randalstown U11 training starts back on Friday 22nd January at Antrim Forum from 5-6pm.
