Rangers scrape through in thriller

RATHFRILAND Rangers hosted up and coming Immaculata in a league contest on Saturday and after a real tight thriller came out on the right side of a 2 – 1 scoreline.

The football was end to end with both teams having chances but the first goal came when Stevie Coulter cooly slotted away a penalty to make it 1–0.

Shane Harrison in the Rathfriland goal was outstanding with a string of fine saves before half time.

In the second period the visitors equalised with a close range shot after a goalmouth melee.

Immaculata then missed a penalty themselves with Harrison getting down to his left with a big strong left hand.

Rathfriland were awarded another penalty which had to be retaken much to the annoyance of the red carded number five and again it was Coulter again who kept his nerve and done the business from the spot to give Rathfriland a narrow 2–1 lead.

Both teams had further chances but the game finished 2–1 to Rathfriland with one of the most complete goalkeeping performances you are ever likely to see by young Shane Harrison in the Rangers` goal.
