Rangers Swifts denied top spot after 1-1 draw in Laurelvale

Banbridge Rangers Swifts travelled to Laurelvale on Saturday with the aim of moving into top spot in Reserve Division 2 but needed to come back from an early goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw.

There wasn’t much between the sides early on as the pitch was very heavy and Rangers were playing uphill. On fifteen minutes, Nicky Ireland hit the bar with a curling effort but within a few minutes Laurelvale found a way through the Rangers back four and opened the scoring.

The majority of the game was played out in midfield with Dean Gordon coming closest for Rangers before half-time when played in one-on-one but curled wide.

In an attempt to crack the Laurelvale back four, the Swifts went three at the back but failed to create any clear-cut chances. In the 73rd minute, a free-kick on the right side finally provided the equaliser with Christopher McGalddery curling into the bottom corner. Rangers pressed for a late winner but John McCahon failed to conver two decent chances and the Swifts had to settle for a point ahead of the top two clash with Glenavy Reserves this Saturday.
