Rasharkin suffer cup heartache

Ballymena and Provincial Football League

Sponsored my Michelin Athletic Club

FORTUNATELY the heavy rain showers on Saturday did not interrupt the fixtures though a couple of referees stopped their games for a few minutes to allow the surface water that fell near the end of their games to soak away.

Hopefully this is not a forerunner of things to come during the winter months.

FC Ballynure 2 v 3 Dunloy

Dunloy got off to a flying start in this game with John John McFerran converting a penalty on the fourth minute.

After this goal the game was a very even affair until a brace of goals scored by Kevin McAlonan and John John McFerran on the 51st and 60th minute saw Dunloy three goals clear. Ballynure never gave up the chase and a brace of goals scored by Glenn Miskimmon on the 73rd and 80th minutes saw then in with chance of saving the game.

Rasharkin paid the price for slack play around their own goal area and were punished severely by a sharp Villa attacking front line.

The Villa took the lead won the 14th minute when centre forward Sharkey reacted quickest to a loose ball and this goal separated the teams until Ian Parkhill equalised for Rasharkin on the 62nd minute.

The Villa who were playing with ten men having a man sent off before half-time then scored two quick goals through Crozier on the 62nd minute and a penalty converted by Sharkey 65th minute. Rasharkin got back into the game after Karl Smith scored on the 83rd minute but then got caught chasing the equaliser when Sharkey nipped through to complete his hat-trick on the 90th minute.

Junior Division One

Ballyclare Comrades Reserves 2 v 0 Ballymoney United Reserves

This was a close game between last season’s two top teams in the Division and during the first-half they more or less cancelled each other out.

The first goal in the game came on the 65th minute when Lee Rushe scored for the Comrades. After this goal Ballymoney went on all-out attack but were held by a resolute Comrades defence who sealed the game after Matt Boyd scored on the 82nd minute.

Referee Mr Lee Patterson

Newtownabbey FC 5 v 0 Finvoy

Newtownabbey who added a few players to their squad during the close season started off well against Finvoy who lost a number of their players in the same period.

A hat-trick from Jackie Moore with goals scored on the 20th, 33rd and 37th minutes saw the home side in control at half –time. Finvoy never gave up but two more goals scored by Ricky Pollock and Stevie Armstrong on the 61st and 80th minute killed off any hopes they had. Referee Mr Ian Getty

Chimney Corner Reserves 2 v 2 Glebe Rangers Reserves

Hide Ad
Hide Ad

The surprise in this game was the number of chances not taken by both teams during the first-half resulting in no goals being scored.

This situation changes on the 46th minute after Jackie Morrison scored to put Glebe in front but the Corner came back quickly with Henry Nutter scoring the equaliser on the 55th minute. The scoreline remained the same until Henry Nutter scored his second goal on the 80th minute and this appeared to have won the game before Neil McVicker nipped through with the equaliser for Glebe on the 89th minute. Referee Mr Brian Leitch

Newtownabbey 7’S 3 v 1 Tobermore United Reserves

Carniny Amateurs 3 v 0 FC Larne
