Rathfriland U11s secure hard-fought draw with Tandragee Rovers

Rathfriland Colts U11s bagged a hard fought 1-1 draw with Tandragee Rovers at a wet Annagh 4G pitch.

Rathfriland’s Shane Close almost opened the scoring on a couple of occasions. Midway through the first half, they did take the lead when a corner form Mark Bronte was cleverly flicked in at the near post by Alexander Fitzsimmons. Tandragee’s best opening came late in the first half when a fierce low shot was brilliantly turned round the post by keeper Liam Tumilty.

Tandragee levelled after the break when the striker gave Tumilty no chance with a great finish. From then on however, the defensive trio of Fitzsimmons, Sloane and McCumiskey were magnificent. Rathfriland could have won the game late on. Fitzsimmons burst down the right wing as he had been doing all day, played a neat interchange with Matthew Cromie but his shot hit the side netting. Joey O’Hare also had a thunderous shot fly over the bar and Danielle Megaw could just not find the net as she had done the last time the teams met.

Team: Liam Tumilty, Alexander Fitzsimmons (Man of the Match), Darren Sloane, Conor McCumiskey, Shane Close, Mark Bronte, Will Kelly, Adam Cromie, Danielle Megaw, Matthew Cromie, Joey O’Hare.
