Ready to rumble at Fight Night

LURGAN Celtic and Taghnevan Harps are getting ready to rumble - but not on the football field.

Players from both clubs will face each other in the boxing ring in an eagerly awaited Fight Night at Centrepoint on February 27.

This follows the huge success of a similar show held recently in the Clann Eireann club.

Already there are 20 fighters confirmed with some invitational fighters also to attend.

On the card are some mouth watering contests involving some ‘old hands’ and some ‘young guns’.

All boxers are training hard and thanks to members of Phoenix Boxing Club they are picking up tips and moves to put on a good show on the night.

Celtic spokesman Kevin Magee said: “When Stephen Shanks from the Harps first approached me in early October with the idea I thought it was ‘pie in the sky’ but the more we talked about it the more feasible it became.

“We have a hard working team around us, people like Ciaran O’Kane willing to do whatever it takes to make this a success and with the help and expertise of the Phoenix Boxing Club we are confident it will be.”

Demand for tickets is already high and are priced at 20 each. Doors open at 6.30pm with the first fight at 7pm and a disco will follow the action.

Celtic boxers are Jap McGibbon, Niall McParland, Bobby McKerr, Pol Smyth, Gavin Gowdy, Pip McConville, Niall Lavery, Ciaran McEvoy and Ciaran O’Kane.

Harps fighters are Stevie Shanks, Gary O’Hagan, Dwyer Lavery, Michael Halls, Mick Haddock, Barrie Mallon, Darren fox, Jerome Eagers and Sean McConville.

Invitational boxers are D. McConville, Dee Smyth, Chris Moran, Marty McCleery, Niall Haughian
