Rebecca beats all comers to win junior singles title

The event is in its 21st year and more than 65 children from as far afield as Downpatrick and Lurgan took part in various age group events from Under 8 up to Under 18. The weather was kind, with no wind and plenty of hot sunshine.

There was local success with Rebecca Campbell, who is a member of the local club but who lives in Ballyclare, winning the U18 Girls Singles. On the way to final she defeated the seeded Arianna Kennedy and then comprehensively beat the top seed Rebecca Gray, from the David Lloyd club in Belfast 6/2 6/3.

Rebecca failed to double up in the U18 Girls Doubles, partnering Arianna Kennedy, losing in straight sets to Lydia Crawford and Zoe Dickson.

Perhaps the best final of the week was the boys U16 singles where Jordan Mckeown defeated Matthew Robinson in a three-set thriller. McKeown saved a match point at the end of the second set before coming through 6/3 in the third.

McKeown had the U14 Boys Singles title earlier in the day and went on to partner Harry Ellesmere to success in the U14 Boys Doubles final.

There was further local success in the U14 Boys Singles Plate with Jakob Holst defeating another Larne member, Charlie Cloke, and from Alex Ogilvy who won the Player of the Tournament trophy.
