Rebekah honoured by Dromore AC

DURING the recent Dromore Civic Week, Rebekah Nixon from Dromore AC was awarded with the club's Young Athlete Trophy presented by coach Michael McGreevy following what has been a terrific first year in competitive athletics.

Hoping to build on this success Rebekah travelled to the NI and Ulster Age Group Championships in Shercock, County Cavan at the end of May where she successfully defended her shot putt title and, following one of the most competitive races of the meet, finished a battling third in the 600m race.

Less than a second separated the top three finishers and Rebekah posted a personal best despite recovering from a recent hamstring injury which had laid her out of training for a month.

The week after the championships the Dromore Central PS pupil won the 2.2km junior girls race at the inaugural Pioneer trail race series at Shaw's Bridge, beating girls up to three years her senior.
