Reception forborough's top biker

ONE of Carrick's top sportsmen was this week due to be honoured by his home town.

Motorcyclist Alastair Seeley was to be feted at a civic reception, hosted by the Mayor, Alderman Patricia McKinney, last night (Wednesday).

The tribute comes following the most successful seasons of Seeley’s career to date: 2009 saw him lift the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 and Irish Superbike championships and set lap records at six tracks, among them Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Mondello Park and Kirkistown; he currently holds nine lap records in total.

The Mayor commented: “It is always particularly rewarding to be able to recognise a borough resident for their amazing achievements. Alastair is a great example of a sportsman on the top of his game and we are proud that the local boy is gaining national success.”

Seeley, whose father also raced on two wheels, will travel to Spain in March to begin testing the Relentless TAS Suzuki team’s new bike ahead of the 2010 Superbike season.
