Record breaking run by Lisburn men

For the first time in 25 years, the recent ‘meet’ in the firmus energy Super 6 athletics series was dedicated mostly to relay races.

Each age group from U13 to seniors was offered a 4 x 100 metres competition and more than 50 teams took part, including relay runners from Lisburn.

There were no events for the minis but the older age groups were also able to take part in a few other track and field activities including the shot, long jump, javelin and hurdles.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the record breaking run by City of Lisburn’s Senior men whose time of 42.21s eclipsed the previous Under 20 best of 42.33s which had stood since 1984!

In the Senior men’s 400m hurdles, Ciaran Barnes from the City of Lisburn produced a fine run just six-hundredths of a second short of his personal best.

Organised by Lagan Valley Athletics Club and supported by firmus energy, the final meet scheduled for 20 August.

The firmus energy Super Six is open to people of all abilities, aged 8 and over.
