Reid rattles in the putts to card a real record-breaking score

It was a record-breaking Saturday at Lisburn Golf Club as Peter Reid carded a smashing score.

The 22 handicapper played his best ever nine holes and finished with 28 points.

After an opening par five, Peter had three threes in a row to go two under par gross!

That’s almost uncharted territory for a 20-something handicapper.

He dropped four strokes in the next three holes but he managed to round things off very nicely with a par for a round of only 37 strokes and 28 points.

He was a clear winner of Section Three, finishing six points ahead of Chris Warwick (23). Chris was well in contention but double bogeys at the seventh and the eighth left him with 22 points. David Wightman (26) was third on 21.

Stephen Wilkinson (17) was top scorer in Section Two with 24 points. He was two under par after six holes following birdies at the first and the fourth. He completed his round in 38 for 24 points. Seamus McGuckin (18) and Mark McAlpine (17) were one point behind.

The outcome was decided on the final hole where Mark’s five proved one stroke too many.

Noel Robinson (12) hit an eight iron to nine inches from the flag at the sixth for an easy birdie two. He missed a short putt on the temporary ninth green for 24 points. This was a costly error as he tied with Matt Lyness (4) at the top of Section One.

Matt had five threes on his card as he completed the round in 33. His birdie three at the ninth clinched top spot on count-back. Stephen Shaw (5) was third with 22 points after completing the nine holes in 34. His three birdies at the second, fifth and sixth were offset with a bogey at the par four seventh which was playing very long.

With only two weeks left, Colin Jeffers leads Section Two with 89 points, followed by Gavin Hawkins on 87 and Tommy Beattie on 86.

Chris Warwick has a big lead in Section Three with 88 points. Peter Reid has moved into second with 80 with Brian Sparkes third on 79.

Ian Sayers and Ben Kirkwood top Section One with 85 followed by Matt Lyness on 84.
