Reigning champs Larne ease past Templemore

Larne Swimming Club’s Provincial Towns’ League (PTL) team travelled to Castlereagh on Saturday night for the first dual meet of the season against Templemore.

Larne are the reigning PTL champions, and they showed on the night their real determination to retain the coveted crown of Ulster’s best club team.

With a very vocal crowd cheering them on in every event, spectators were entertained with hard-fought races, not only against Templemore, but also when club-mates competed against each other.

Right from the opening medley relays event it was clear Larne were going all out to repeat last season’s results.

The local team led in the point-scoring from the first race and there was no let-up throughout the remaining backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, individual medley and freestyle relay events.

The final score was overwhelmingly in Larne’s favour, winning by over 100 points, 652-492.

Larne’s club captain, 17-year-old Louise Hill, said: “Well done to all the Larne swimmers. It was a fantastic result in our first PTL. Super swims and personal bests, everyone should be very proud of themselves.”
